Post # 6 - Almost Time to Say Goodbye aaaaaaannnnnd St. Gertrude's Day
We are in the last few weeks of the program. I really enjoyed our class and am fortunate to have had the pleasure of getting to know all of you. I had some new opportunities in this RW 5 class and am very happy with the outcomes of our Circle of Trust, Research Assignment, and interesting Literature Circle meetings. Thank you so much!
This is our final blog post! I would like for you to write about your plans for what is to come after this course finishes. What do you want to do? What do you have to do? Where are you going to go? Anything else you care to share is cool :)
Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day. I don't usually celebrate St. Patrick's Day regularly, so I took the opportunity to celebrate another occasion that takes place on the same day - St. Gertrude's Day. St. Gertrude was a Patron Saint of Cats! Check it out!

St. Valentine's Long Weekend
Please excuse the tardiness of this post....
I went on a snowboarding adventure to Kicking Horse Resort in Golden, B.C. for the long weekend. We headed out early on Friday morning and arrived in time to pay a million dollars for half-day lift tickets. Oh well.... the snow was ok - but super soft and slushy at the bottom. We ran into Sarah's brother and went on a very foggy run together that had almost zero visibility...it was great fun :) We dropped into the Feuz Bowl from Redemption Ridge for the first time, and I am amped to give it another go, next time with a good dose of fresh powder!
We had cheap tickets for our full-day of riding on Saturday - cheaper than the half-day tickets cost (yessssss). There was a little bit of new snow and we had a clear day to ride. Unfortunately the bottom of the mountain was in desperate need of some snow and colder temperatures!
I love going out to the mountains, breathing the fresh air, smelling the trees in the sun, and feeling the cool air on my skin. It is invigorating and exciting.
Here are a few pics from the weekend. Can you spot the photobomb*?

Post #5 - Academic Word List (AWL)
Hello lovely RW5B bloggers!
I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable long weekend! 4 days off! The blog post this week will be twofold. Meaning, there will be two aspects or topics that you will be required to post about.
Topic # 1 - What are your plans for the long weekend? or What did you do over the long weekend? (change your tense according to when you actually sit down to write your blog). If you want to include some photos or interesting links that would be neat. I will be sure to take some pics while I am snowboarding this weekend in Golden/Kickinghorse and post them on the blog :)
Topic # 2 - What do you know about the Academic Word List (AWL)? Have you heard of it before? Have you ever used it? Are you familiar with it? Write about your knowledge of the AWL, and also write about how you think it could be used to increase your English comprehension. Feel free to include links or use quotations and/or citations to support your post.

Post # 4 - Paraphrasing, Summarizing, and Quoting (Academic Writing)
We are going to start to look at the wonderful world of paraphrasing, summarizing and quoting in Academic writing. Before we start, I would love for you all to do a little bit research about what these terms (paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting) mean, why they are important, how to use them and when to use them. Your mission for this weeks blog is to find 1-3 links to helpful websites that explain these terms. Also, I would like for you to write an entry summarizing what you found out AND quoting where the information was found. Good luck! Have fun! Here is a link to get you started :)

This week I ask that you write a "perfect paragraph" about an example of truth and lies in your own life, or choose an example from the history of your country.
Use at least 8 vocabulary words from Unit 2.
Use at least 4 comparative sentences.
Have fun! Consider your reading audience! Make sure that you include all necessary information.

Unit 1 looked at the life of Mickey Mantle and how he had many regrets about how he communicated with people in his life that were important to him. I would like you to write a letter to someone who has been very important to you in your life. Mickey Mantle wrote a letter to his father, but the person you choose can still be alive today. If you hadn't had that person in your life, what would have happened to you? Would your life have been different? How?

Hello! Welcome to our awesome and amazing class blog. This will be an open forum to share ideas and work on our written fluency. Please follow the instructions on my blog for each post, comment on your classmates blogs, and add any other additional information that you choose.
Your first post is going to be an easy introductory post all about yourself, why you are here in Calgary in the English Language Program, what your goals and dreams are, and finally a link to the song that you chose for your Narrative assignment. Please feel free to add some information about why you chose the song and what it means to or what your personal connection is with the song.
This a link to a song that I chose. It is a song called "Same Love" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. I have a personal connection with this song AND video because I think it is so important that society be aware of the issue of non-acceptance of same-sex couples and same-sex marriage. Love is Love and everyone should have the right to Love.
Thanks! Happy blogging!
